Stand-up Philosophy #29: ‘Lies’

This sentence is a lie. Or is it? If it is, then it isn’t. But if it isn’t, then it is. Annoying, eh? (This one apparently drove Bertrand Russell nuts). But what is definitely NOT a lie is that STAND-UP PHILOSOPHY is back on the 1st December, and the theme is ‘Lies’!

Why do people lie? Can lying ever be a good thing? And why do we sometimes prefer to believe lies than the truth?
